2006 Bead Meetings and Events

Through May 16 -- Thomas Mann at the Bellevue Art Museum. This exhibit is entitled Storm Cycle and is work he did in response to Hurricane Katrina. It inncludes jewelry and mixed media panels.

The Picard Trade Bead Museum and African Art Gallery, Carmel Valley, CA

The museum is dedicated to the history and aesthetic display of beads traded in Africa throughout the centuries. Over 50,000 beads and ornaments are encased in 48 showcases and 58 Lucite wall panels in a 3,500 square foot gallery.

The Eternal Bead: Extended through December 31, 2005

Bead Timeline of History. The Bead Museum's centerpiece and permanent collection will be a recreation of the famous History of Beads Time Line from Lois Sher Dubin's History of Beads, and will be dedicated in memory of, and named for, noted researcher, author, and collector Elizabeth Harris. This exhibit will be curated by bead authority Jamey D. Allen.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art -- Collections Online

Featured on Collections Online are highlights of the department of Costume and Textiles collection of beaded handbags and purses.  With bags from the early 19th century through the 20th century, this collection offers excellent examples of both men's and women's beaded bags and purses from around the world.

Besides additional examples of LACMA's collection of miser's purses, Collections Online also features several examples of beaded reticules from 19th and early 20th centuries.  These examples of beading are only a few of those featured on LACMA's Collections Online.

Dairy Barn Bead International

Bead International 2006 is the fifth biennial, international, juried exhibition of contemporary artwork in which beads are a primary element. Approximately 85 works will be selected for display by the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center, Athens, Ohio. Following its premier in Athens, selections from the exhibit will circulate as a touring exhibit from October 2006 through December 2008.
