Thursday, May 15th                                        Larry Scott

The renowned glass beadmaker and new author talks about his new book, The Masters: Glass Beads: Major Works by Leading Artists, and what it took to pull it all together.  The art of glass beadmaking has exploded in popularity during the past decade - and the book’s inspiring, exquisitely fashioned examples reveal exactly why. Whether showcasing faces, animals, or flowers, these beads exhibit incredible detail and gorgeous color.  If you haven’t heard Larry speak before, you’re in for a treat.  Expect an insightful, lively and humorous look at the publishing industry and the world of modern glass beads.

Thursday, June 19th                                       Laurie Hall

“In my mind, what I was making as jewelry has always been sculpture. In the art jewelry world, I am known for creating strong sculptural narrative pieces that incorporate incidents from my life and from the American experience. My work is graphic, bold, and deals with content. The compositions present issues without making a judgment or taking a side. Initially, I chose to work with jewelry because it enabled me to make art and also to use the human body as an armature for reporting that art.”

Art jeweler and teacher, Laurie Hall studied under the renowned jewelry artist and NWBS founding member Ramona Solberg at the UW.  Laurie holds a B.A. Degree from Willamette University and a M.A.T. from the University of Washington. Her jewelry is published in several art books and included in collections at The American Craft Museum, The Tacoma Art Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, King County Arts Collection, Washington State Art Commission collection.
