The Retreat Center at Camp Burton, Vashon Island, WA

Mark your calendars for the long weekend of May 18-21, 2017. We are once again returning to Camp Burton on Vashon Island. This charming facility is located on waterfront property in a peaceful, wooded setting, only a short ferry ride from Seattle. We are planning another fun, relaxing weekend this year for you to work on your beading projects, visit with friends, share what you are doing, take a mini-class, and just have a great time - with everything taken care of for you. Our facility has great views of the water and beach access. For a preview of our location: www.campburton.com

Your retreat registration fee includes both your housing and meals*. You will be able to come on (Thursday or) Friday afternoon, leave on Sunday afternoon, and know that everything is taken care of in your registration: all meals* (*Friday & Saturday dinner, Saturday & Sunday brunch), your lodging, and our space to meet. Sleeping accommodations will be 3 people per room in the Retreat Center and 2 per room in Chandler Cottage. You may tell us who you wish to room with or let us make the assignment. The Retreat Center has private baths for each room, while Chandler Cottage has shared baths. Linen service is provided. Since we are at a camp and not a hotel, rooms are left unlocked.

We do want this to be a relaxing weekend for all with plenty of time to bead. We are also planning the following fun activities for those who wish to participate:

Friday July 20th, 7-8:30pm, at North Seattle Community College.
The Northwest Basket Weavers will be presenting a special weekend with noted fiber artist Ferne Jacobs this July in Seattle, WA.

Ferne will be giving a public presentation, "An Inner Relationship to the Container" on Friday July 20th, 7-8:30pm, at North Seattle Community College. During this presentation, Ferne will present and discuss images of the idea of the container from many cultures and time periods, imagining its different meanings and ways to approach it. She will also present aspects of her own life in relation to the creative process, again involving the idea of the container as well as pictures showing the history of her work.

The weekend will continue with a two-day workshop, "Coiled and Twined Containers", taught by Ferne Jacobs, on Saturday and Sunday, June 21 - 22, also at North Seattle Community College. This hands-on workshop explores the off-loom techniques of coiling and twining, and the two and three dimensional shapes that can be created. Ferne will delve into conceptualizing a design, varying the complexity of the shape and exploring the use of color and its relationship to the piece. This workship encourages individual expression through discussions about creativity and inspiration.

I will be away for a couple of weeks with 30 of our BERNINA sewing machines on a quilting cruise, but your members can call QWNW and B&B at 425-453-6005 to take advantage of this offer. They should ask to speak with Stacie or Laura Jo to register. Space is guaranteed by credit card, and must include two or more participants per registration.
